Balen Shah’s story begins in 2013. That year, popular late singer Yama Buddha started a rap battle show called Raw Barz in Nepal.
Balen became famous after performing in the show. He performed against Little Grizl.
The video has more than 10 million views on YouTube. This was the beginning of Balen’s popularity which would one day make him the mayor of Kathmandu.
His official YouTube channel has around 469 thousand Subscribers. 7 of his videos have reached more than 1 million views. Among them Balidan is the most popular one with more than 7 million views.
Apart from being a rapper, composer and politician, Balen is also an structural engineer.
In 2022 he became the new mayor of Kathmandu winning majority of votes. After becoming the mayor he wanted to build a statue of his late admired friend Yama Buddha.
He knowns that, without Yama his journey would have been different.
But he had to adandon the idea due to the lack of support and critisizms by his fellow politicians.
Immediately after becoming the mayor, he started inquiring the buildings that were made illegally without documents.
He ordered to demolish those buildings. Side businesses on the footpaths have been cleared.
Overall Kathmandu is clean and the roads are fully pitched.
So, under Balen’s leadership Kathmandu is really progressing towards development. Overall Balen is an inspiration to all the youths and upcoming leaders.
He has everything a leader must have, courage, ambitions and visions.
Recently, he banned the hindi movie, Adi Purush, in Kathmandu which has never been done before by any leader in Nepal.
Indeed, we need more leaders like him. What he has done for Kathmandu in such a short period of time is pariseworthy. I wonder what will he do if he becomes the Prime Minister of Nepal.
