When I listen to the songs of singers like Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and compare it to Dua Lipa, there is a different vibe to it.
Dua’s success did not come overnight and she has had her fair share of struggle and hard work before she became famous.
When Dua was 11, her choir teacher told her she couldn’t sing as her voice was too low. If only they could see her now.
Dua left home at the age of 15. She moved out of her family home in Kosovo to London, to pursue her career in music. “The cooking and the cleaning… that was tough,” Dua told NME last year. “Stuff like that really made me grow up before my time.” Before stardom Lipa worked on the door of a club in Mayfair. “It was awful,” she says of the experience.
She once assaulted a police officer… kind of
When she was fifteen, Dua and her mates were threatened with arrest after they threw excess bubble-bath bubbles off a balcony – without realising, they’d been hitting a police officer who was walking underneath. “It came to the point where he was like: ‘We’re gonna take you down to Scotland Yard’”, she says. “I was in tears by that point. He was like: ‘How old are you? 15? We’ll just send you a warning in the post.’” She never got the warning, says Dua, and they never called her mum. Phew!
Dua Lipa once worked on the door of a club in Mayfair. “It was awful,” she says of the experience.
In an interview, Dua Lipa shed light on her emotional turmoil and her experiences of feeling incompetent after going through a difficult breakup. She says: “I never expected anything to do what New Rules did.
More recently, Lipa has mentioned preferring mind-body and strength-based workouts instead of cardio — including Pilates, which tons of celebs are talking about at the moment. “I also love to do yoga” Lipa told Refinery29 in 2021. “I like to leave my cardio workout to dancing.”
All of the struggles in her early life and her willingness to continue has made her immensely successful in her career as a singer. And this is why Dua Lipa is Unstoppable.
Dua’s song titled New Rules has reached more than 2 billion views and 5 of her songs have crossed over 500 million views on YouTube.
