In the 1990s Microsoft was leading the personal computer market. 90% used windows laptops while Apples’ computers were used by 10% only. This is my personal view on how Steve Jobs beat Bill Gates in the long run.
According to Apple Insider, in Q1 2022, Apple shipped about 22.3 million Mac units and in the process dethroned Lenovo from the number one position. Apple gained about 18.8% market share in the PC market. Besides, Mac shipments have seen 1% growth annually, according to Canalys.
Today, Apple is the most valuable and innovative tech company in the world. When you hear about the apple products, there is a good feeling about it.
After ditching Intel processor, Apple announced their own chips “M1″on November 10, 2020. Apple M1 is a series of ARM-based system-on-a-chips designed by Apple Inc. as a central processing unit and graphics processing unit for its Macintosh desktops and notebooks, and the iPad Pro and iPad Air tablets.
In 2021, Apple announced M1 chips in laptops as well as iPads. It was another revolutionary product from Apple in terms of speed and efficiency. Obviously, the tide has shifted, Macbook Air with M1 chip was the best selling laptop in 2021, thanks to its power efficiency and high performance.
Other the other hand, AMD has also increased the processor power but the laptops are much bulkier and needs far more power than the M1 chips to have the same level of performance.
Arm chips on iPhone and iPads started to become more powerful than ever. Eventually, the time came where the arm chips on iPhone and iPad were more powerful than the best performing windows laptops.
It was a game changer. Steve Jobs once said that, the computer chips has a duration of around 10 years. Every 10 years a game changing chip replaces the existing ones.
Apples’ M1 computers has high efficiency as it consumes less power giving more performance. Even, loading and working in the heavy softwares doesn’t turn on the fans of the laptop. The laptop is the thinnest and at the same time the most powerful and best looking laptop in the world.
Another reason was software. Mac Os is just easy and feels great to use. Windows software doesn’t feels good to use and is full of bugs. The older laptops running the latest version of windows is unusable. Literally the older computers is slower than modern television.
Although buying a windows laptop is cheap but is comes with a drawback. It includes compromises on the quality. The display is not so good, speakers are of low quality and the build quality and design doesn’t feel that great to use either.
On the other hand Apple’s MacBook Pro and MacBook Air are of premium quality. The software and metallic body feels amazing to use. It may be expensive but the durability and software support for years pays off in the long run. And again it also has a good resale value like every other Apple Products.
I too was a windows laptop user for about a decade and was not a big fan of the laptop. The constant bugs, low build quality and poor software experience made it a not so good laptop to use on a daily basis.
The first Apple product I bought was iPhone 7 Plus. Although the iPhone is 6 years older, it can still compete with the latest android phones.
My next Apple product was MacBook Pro 2015. Although the computer is older, it can still render a 4K resolution video on the Final Cut Pro.
The seamless transfer of media files via airdrop is a pretty handy feature. Your notes, reminders, photos and even contacts sync between iPhone and the MacBook Pro.
The M1 chip on iPad means, it is best for gaming too. Heavy games like GTA V which makes a mid-range laptop’s fans go crazy, runs smoothly in the iPad.
Unlike other companies, Apple makes its own hardware and software.
Apple products are very reliable and you literally feel the difference in using an Apple product vs other products. The beautiful design and attention to detail on smaller things on iPhone and MacBook makes it standout amongst other products.
When you buy a cheaper android smartphone and update the firmware version regularly, then it becomes very slow within 2 years of usage.
I think this is very bad for the reputation of the brand.
The person buying the cheaper phone will probably think twice before buying the next smartphone of that particular brand.
This might be the reason why so many people are switching to iPhone these days.
This case is similar in case of windows laptops.
More and more people are switching to Mac because of their frustration with windows.
This is how Steve Jobs beat Bill Gates in the long run.
